Summer Reading 2015 Celebration Party
During the summer of 2016 lots of RPS students joined Mrs. Gullett and other teachers to read and participate in activities based on the theme SUMMER OLYMPICS! The kids all had a blast and we celebrated by having red and blue Kool-Aid, Cheet-o Olympic torches, Olympic ring M&M cookies, and participated in different Olympic-style events, such as the long jump, basketball, archery, hurdles, soccer obstacle course, and ball toss. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each event got to take home a gold, silver, or bronze medal. Students who read at least 6 books and passed 6 AR tests received an invite to the final celebration as well as a bronze medal and certificate. Students who read at least 9 books and passed 9 AR tests received an invite to the final celebration as well as a silver medal and certificate. Students who read at least 12 books and passed 12 AR tests received an invite to the final celebration as well as a gold medal and certificate.

In Class Activities
1st grade students learned about cause and effect while reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. After reading, they practiced identifying cause and effect by playing a matching game.

End of the Year Contest
At the end of each school year, I host a classroom contest to encourage students to get books turned back in. The classroom in each grade level that has the most books turned in receives a 45 minute iPad party in the library while their teacher gets a well deserved 45 minute break!
